Uber is Committed to Safety

Watch this short video on safety while on the Uber platform!

Cashless Transactions

Most riders will opt to have their fares automatically charged to their credit cards. This means you don't have to deal with the risk or hassle of carrying cash and making change – no runaway riders too!

Drivers Rate Riders Too

You rate your rider the way your rider rates you. Remember: it is a violation of the code of conduct when the rider's behaviour makes you concerned for your safety or the safety of your vehicle.

No Random Pick-Ups

Before riding with Uber, riders are required to create an account with their personal and payment information. Rides can only be requested through the app, so there’s a detailed record of every customer and every trip.

End-to-end Insurance

From pickup to drop-off, every trip around the world is insured — protecting riders, drivers, and everyone else on the road.

Important Safety Reminders

Please review the safety tips below to help keep the system safe for riders and drivers:

  • Confirm you are picking up the right person. Ask the rider to confirm his or her name before beginning a trip, especially in high-traffic areas.
  • Need to contact your rider? Call or text the rider through the app using an anonymised phone number, without ever having to share or receive any personal information.
  • On occasion, individuals may ask you to give them a ride outside of the Uber system for cash - this is known as a ‘street hail’ and it is not allowed. Picking up passengers who have not requested through the app is both illegal and dangerous for both parties. Drivers who violate this policy will be deactivated.

For additional information on safety, check out our Code of Conduct.

Accidents

The best way to handle an accident is to be prepared ahead of time. To help, we’ve complied a checklist of suggested tips.

Intoxicated Riders

Uber and Uber users are proud to play a part in reducing drunk driving-related accidents in cities we’ve entered. However, this means you will get the occasional intoxicated rider, and when they've had too much to drink, even the most seasoned driver-partner can find it a challenge to handle. Check out the Intoxicated Rider Guide to help you address such situations.

Emergencies

If, at any time, you require immediate emergency attention, please call the emergency service number in your area. Once all parties are safe and the situation has been handled by the authorities, please notify Uber. We will assist and take appropriate action as needed, including cooperation with law enforcement.
